About

Dialogue for Democratic Reconstruction is a project to create a roadmap for the current interim government with the opinions and recommendations of the relevant stakeholders. The project is funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Two forms of dialogue are being held, national and regional. The national dialogues are taking place in Dhaka, a total of 8 dialogues will be held at the national level. The guests are prominent civil society members and relevant stakeholders of the different topics of the dialogues. The 8 topics are:

(a) Constitution
(b) Human rights and justice for victims of egregious violations
(c) Judiciary
(d) Civil administration
(e) Constitutional bodies
(f) Law enforcement agencies including intelligence agencies
(g) Economic policies including the banking sector and external loans
(h) Mass media. Each of these topics will have one dialogue session.

The regional dialogues will be held at Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, and Khulna. These events will have public participation from the areas. The regular public will voice their opinions about what sort of changes they hope to see in these 8 government sectors. There will be a panel of civil society and experts in different sectors who will raise the issues that they feel need the most attention from the interim government.  These dialogues are going to create a roadmap for the government to follow so they know what the people want from them. This project is to create a democratic and more responsive ‘for the people’ mode of governance that is going to enable the citizens to have a say in the process.
